Jerrells is who? Oh right he's our fifth new backup point guard...

Today the New Orleans Hornets have acquired backup point guard Curtis Jerrells from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for a future second round pick. According to Hoopsworld Jerrells is on his way to Memphis to meet up with the team right now.

The San Antonio Spurs have traded reserve point guard Curtis Jerrells to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for a second-round pick, sources tell HOOPSWORLD.

Jerrells is on a flight to Memphis now and will join the Hornets tomorrow night when they take on the Grizzlies.

This move signals the end of Shakur and Strawberry’s time with the team, most likely. If Jerrells performs in preseason then expect Shakur and DJ to get cut by the end of preseason. No one has showed anything at the backup point guard position (as I have maintained). So it’s nice to see that Dell thinks so too. While other writers have jumped on the Willie Green love boat, I have remained harshly sceptic for good reason.

Willie doesn’t play the point guard position. Watching the backups it’s evident that Green doesn’t work the pick and roll well in order to get his teammates involved and he’s constantly looking for his shot, which isn’t bad, if you are the shooting guard.

With Jerrells coming in I am hoping we have a diamond in the rough, but I’ve said that about nearly all the D-League pickups and none have really turned out fabulous, after all there is a reason their in the D-League.

You were right about Shakur who is already gone (just ahead of him through the door: Watkins). Demps said that Jarrell is on a three day tryout. I figures he is gonna play. I assume the last cut will be decided between DJ and Alexander.
PS: great posts. I really enjoy your regular updates. well written and great opinions.

Thanks Berlin, it’s good to get some nice feedback. It’s tough to get recognition out there seeing as this is a smaller market team. But I enjoy it, so it’s nice to know that there are some out there enjoying my analysis too haha.
