The Hornets have only been in New Orleans for just under ten years, which makes me wonder, “What was your favourite Hornets moment in New Orleans?”
There are a number to choose from ranging from opening night to Chris Paul‘s first game to the win against the Mavericks in the playoffs till the just recent Game Four victory over the Lakers. Grasping the significance of each moment is important to us here at S&S so tell us which your favourite moment and why, we all love to reminisce!
My favourite moment was Game Five of the Playoffs in 2008 against the San Antonio Spurs. I remember it vividly actually getting to watch it here on TV which was a big surprise at the time. Prior to the game the Hornets had a stinker in Game Four. Peja Stojakovic played one of his worst games, and Tyson Chandler scored next to nothing suffering from foul issues.
It was all about adjustments in this game, but the reason why I hold it so close to my heart is that David West dropped the dime on the Spurs. West had 38 points, 14 rebounds (that will never happen again), 5 assists, 5 blocks (!) and 2 steals. To me, it was West’s best game as a Hornet, surpassing future games.
Chris Paul didn’t have a bad game either finding Peja Stojakovic for big three’s and big turnarounds. That’s what this game showed to me about both Paul and West, their resiliency. Even when they were thoroughly outplayed the game before, they turned on the ignition and took control.
The victory was sweet because the Hornets took a 3-2 lead in the series and had the home-court advantage. It sucked big time that San Antonio was able to rally, and you can bet Chris Paul and the others would want those last two games back.
