The New Orleans Hornets have released their preseason schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 season despite an NBA lockout hanging over their heads. The schedule itself is nothing special outside of a couple of interesting items. Take a look.
The Hornets play five away games against San Antonio, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Atlanta and Houston. The biggest news though, is that New Orleans will play a home game at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum against the Houston Rockets. This is great news because in some ways it allows them to expand their fan-base, albeit through a preseason game. Now if they could just open up the TV Deal to include the entire Gulf-Coast and offer it on most cable plans…
Anyway another item is that New Orleans also gets a nationally televised game against the defender NBA Champions the Dallas Mavericks.
All of this scheduling though, is dependent on the NBA and the Players Union sorting out a new Collective Bargainning Agreement. Stern said in an interview with Bill Simmons that the only plan was “to start the season on time” and that “failure is not an option.” Whether that include preseason games or not remains to be seen.
Anyway, it’s great to see New Orleans at least trying to expand their fan-base. It would’ve been great if they’d also had a game in Baton Rouge, but to no avail.
