The Hornets were able to pull off the victory in the close game between the Warriors. The Hornets decided to sit Eric Gordon out for “rest” and apparently Jason Smith has not recovered from the sprained ankle he suffered in Sundays game. In their place, Marco Belinelli and Gustavo Ayon got the nod to start. Belinelli finished with 23 points, 4 rebounds, four assists, and 3 steals. Ayon finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assist, 1 steal, and 4 blocks.
This was not the easiest game to watch, neither team scored more than 22 points in a single quarter and both teams combined for a grand total of 29 turnovers.
This is what Hornets Head Coach Monty Williams had to say about his team’s effort tonight,
“I just loved our defense tonight. . . . I thought we were outstanding holding that team to 17 points (in the fourth quarter). We played the right way.”
Then to top this game off, Marco Belineli scored the game winner, due to goaltending. Even though it was a layup and should have went in anyways, the fact that the game winner was due to goaltending really sums up how the whole game went.
“I don’t know if it’s the best or worst game-winner of the season, but we won a game, and that’s important for us and our fans, too.”
– Marco Belinelli
The Warriors lost and only need to lose their last game against San Antonio to force a tie for 7th place with either the Raptors or the Nets. Then the Warriors will have to win a coin toss for 7th place and to retain their highly valuable lottery pick. The Hornets on the other hand have 2 lottery pick regardless of anything at this point.
