Unrestricted free agent Chris Kaman is expected to receive offers from a few teams this off season. The Hornets should be among those teams after Kaman dispute all the troubles Kaman and the Hornets organization went through this past season. At one point Kaman was told to stay home even though he was apart of the team.
According to Ric Bucher via ESPN:
The only other teams that are expected to offer Kaman right now are the Portland Trail Blazers, and Miami Heat. The Trail Blazers two best centers right now are Joel Pryzbilla and Haseem Thabeet. Chris Kaman would be a huge upgrade, even at this point in his career. The Heat of course have no true center, the closest thing they have worth playing is Joel Anthony, a 6’8 PF/C with no athletic or scoring abilities. Expect the heat to offer every big man they can find, even though they only have about $3 million to offer.
The only factor I see in the way of the Hornets re-signing Chris Kaman is Emeka Okafor. If they do not trade and get rid of Okafor the Hornets will owe him $14 million this year and the next. With Kaman being over 30 I do not think money will be too much of a factor, I’d expect Kaman to sign with whoever gives him the best chance at winning a championship.
Hopefully he will be excited to play in the same front court as Anthony Davis. I think they would really compliment each other as they are pretty much total opposites. The Hornets will still get low post offense from Kaman, and great defense from Davis.
