- The trade of Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza suddenly has given the Hornets even more to look forward too this off-season. They just free’d up over $40 Million of cap room. Before they had just enough money to re-sign Eric Gordon to a max contract, the question was just is he worth it? Now, the Hornets not only have enough money to sign Gordon, they can go sign 2 players to max contracts. Yes the Hornets did just acquire Rashard Lewis from the Hornets and he is owed $23 million dollars, but if the Hornets cut him before July 1, they only have to to pay him $13 mil.
There aren’t that many players in this years free agent class worthy of a max contract, but there is 1, Deron Williams. Williams will most likely not re-sign with New Jersey so almost every team that can afford him is going to throw a bid in. Lets take a look at some of the teams most likely to offer Williams; The Mavericks, Suns, Trail Blazers, Rockets, Bobcats, and of course the Nets. Now I don’t see any of those organizations being in a better basketball situation than the Hornets. The Hornets will have Anthony Davis, most likely Eric Gordon, another dominant solid player via the 10th pick in the draft, add Deron Williams and the Hornets suddenly have a contending team. You could argue and say this would be the best team Deron Williams has played with in the NBA in their first year together.
This really all depends on who the Hornets select with the 10th pick in this years draft, with the draft only 8 days away and free agency not starting until July 11th. If the Hornets decide to draft Damian Lillard or Kendal Marshal you can only assume that they will not be singing Deron Williams. But a draft choice of Meyers Leonard, Perry Jones, Terrence Jones, or any other forward/center would only improve their chances of attracting D. Will to New Orleans.

And yes, I was upset to see the Sonics move to Oklahoma but glad they're doing well. Im positive the NBA will return to the 206 one day.
