Hornets forward Carl Landry has once again expressed his interest in returning to NO next season. He is unrestricted free agent this summer and would like to see the Hornets make him an offer.
Landy is a underrated 6’9 power forward, with the addition of Anthony Davis it may be tough for the Hornets to justify offering Landry any type of money. The Hornets can say they have enough forwards who can’t play center with Davis, Lance Thomas, Jason Smith, & Gustavo Ayon. The one thing Landry brings to the table that these other guys don’t is experience, but how much will his experience be worth? Landry may bring in offers that could go up to $8 million per year, I do not see the Hornets offering up that kind of money to someone who has no guaranteed minutes.
If Landry really wants to stay in NO and will settle for a $4-6 million contract, sure, the Hornets should definitely keep him. Landry will not be filling a need but he is a better option than Lance Thomas & sometimes Jason Smith.
This also really depends on who the select in this years draft. They will select Anthony Davis with the #1 pick and will probably go big again with the #10 pick. The Hornets also just acquired the #46 pick which could be used in a variety of ways. They can draft a player a any position they want there. If another forward/big is taken there will be no need at all to spare any money on Carl Landry.
