NBA Draft Trade Alet: Chase Budinger Going To Minnesota

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to send their No. 18 overall pick in this years draft to Houston for Chase Budinger.

This trade really baffles me as to why Minnesota agreed to this. I knew they were trying to move up in the draft or possibly trade the pick for shooting gaurd or center. But Chase Budinger, really? Budinger can play shooting guard, but is a natural small forward. He will be added to a team that already has a handful of players that can fit that role with Martel Webster, Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams, & Wesley Johnson.

This was a steal for Houston, they got rid of an average player that they don’t necessarily need for another 1st round draft pick, essentially more trade bait. Shortly after the trade the Rockets made a offer to the Sacramento Kings of Kyle Lowry and the 14th & 16th overall picks for Tyreek Evans and the No. 5 overall pick. I am expecting the Kings to accept this trade, it makes a lot of sense for both sides. Houston is having problems with Lowry and need to get rid of him and the Kings need to find somewhere to ship Evans off too. The Rockets would then have to trade Evans again or Kevin Martin, but it gives them the No. 5 pick, essentially Andre Drummond.

The Rockets have been said to be doing all of this to attract Orlando in a trade for Dwight Howard, and if that doesn’t work their backup plan is to go after Hawks forward Josh Smith.
