The 10th overall pick puts the Hornets in a prime position to add a second potential star player to go along with Anthony Davis. After Anthony Davis the whole first round is wide open and almost any player could slide to the Hornets at #10.
The Hornets have needs for point guard, small forward, and center. Centers Tyler Zeller and Meyers Leonard will be on the board for sure at #10 but I’m not sure the Hornets should go that route and draft another big man. This league has become a Point Guards league, teams that have guys that give them 20 points and 10 assist a night always seem make it further. I love Jarret Jack, but not as the starting point guard of the future. If Damian Lillard is still on the board at 10 the Hornets must take him. Lillard has the potential to be the next star point guard in this league, there is always at least one is every draft, this year it will be Damian Lillard.
If Lillard is off the board I think the Hornets should really consider Terrance Ross. He is one of the best shooters in the draft and has the size to play small forward alongside Eric Gordon. Ross makes a whole lot of more sense to me than Austin Rivers. I understand Rivers made a huge shot against UNC and can score, but he is only 6’4 and I do not see him playing point guard.
As of today, a few mock drafts have the Hornets selecting Jeremy Lamb, with Austin Rivers’ stock rising Lamb’s has dropped. Lamb is a straight shooting guard but there is no question that he would be the best available player left on the board. There is also the option of trading down, I doubt that will happen though at this point. I have not heard any rumors of the Hornets even discussing any trade talks.
All in all the Hornets have many options they can go with with the 10th pick. My guess is they will either pick Damian Lillard, Tyler Zeller, or Austin Rivers.
