Eric Gordon is officially the best player available in free agency now. Deron Williams just took himself off the market as he decided to stay with the Nets and re-sign for a 5 year contract worth $100 million.
What does this mean for Eric Gordon and the Hornets?
Now that Deron Williams has made his decision to say in Brooklyn, other teams that hoped to sign him, such as the Dallas Mavericks, will now look for a 2nd option, a backup plan. For some it may be Eric Gordon. I would not be surprised to see the Mavericks go after Gordon now that Williams is gone and with Jason Terry agreeing to sign with the Boston Celtics.
Gordon has not received any offers yet but he has began to met with other teams. He met with the Phoenix Suns for dinner last night and rumor is they will be offering up a max contract to Gordon any minute.
At least for the Hornets Gordon is a Restricted Free Agent which gives them the right to match all and any offers Gordon may receive. The Hornets have said they are ready to match a max offer for Gordon but nothing is guaranteed, they may change their minds and do a sign-and-trade. Especially after drafting shooting guard Austin Rivers.
