Eric Gordon disappointed a lot of Hornets fans when he signed an offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns and pretty much told New Orleans he did not want them to match the offer. It came as a real surprise for many people as a lot were excited to see Gordon team up with newly acquired Austin Rivers and Anthony Davis. Well Gordon is now officially a Hornet for the next 4 years and according to yahoo! sports here is what he had to say about the whole situation;
“I wish I could’ve done a little better with the fan perception,” Gordon told Yahoo! Sports. “But also at the same time they don’t know the business perspective of how negotiations are handled. They don’t know how being a restricted free agent can be mind-boggling for a player.
“I’m here with an open mind and here to help the young guys. They will see the next four years will be better than the last four years of my career, so it should be nothing but good things.”
Gordon also said he had little communication with the Hornets front office during this time. I can also see how the drafting of Austin Rivers could have been a little confusing for Gordon as they play the same position. It sounds like if the Hornets would have communicated their plans better with Gordon they might have been able to avoid this situation.
Gordon said that he knew the Hornets would match the Suns offer, he was just disappointed in the lack of communication and effort the Hornets put out.
