The Hornets have officially announced that they have acquired Robin Lopez, Hakim Warrick, and cash considerations from Phoenix in a 3 team trade. The Hornets will be sending out Jerome Dyson and Brad Miller to Phoenix, while sending Brooklyn’s 2013 2nd round pick, and the Hornets 2016 2nd round pick to Minnesota. Phoenix will also be receiving Wesley Johnson and a 1st round pick from Minnesota.
I am glad the teams were able to work this deal out after being slowed down by the new CBA. At first Miller was going to be sent back to Minnesota but that would be illegal. I cannot say it enough times how huge this trade is for New Orleans, Robin Lopez is definitely the prize player in this trade. Wesley Johnson can also make a impact in Phoenix, he has just had a very slow start to his NBA career in Minnesota.
Here is what Hornets GM Dell Demps had to say about the acquisition of Lopez and Warrick:
“We are very excited about this trade that brings us two quality people and basketball players to help strengthen our foundation as a team,” Hornets General Manager Dell Demps said. “This move gives us a true center in Robin Lopez who brings youth and is a tough, inside rebounder. In Hakim, we get an experienced, versatile forward who will bring a veteran presence to our team.”
Many are questioning whether Hakin Warrick will be apart of the Hornets long term plans, but Demps seem happy to have him, for now. Warrick turned 30 this year making him the oldest player on the Hornets roster, after him is 26 year old Jason Smith.
