Yes, the Dwightmere is finally over. The Orlando Magic have actually agreed to trade Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers in a 4-team trade, also involving the Denver Nuggets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
This is easily the blockbuster trade of this summer. It seems that every team wins in this situation, the Lakers easily come out on top though. If you look at the trade details, the Lakers essentially are only giving up Andrew Bynum in this deal and are getting back Dwight Howard and a backup point guard in return. Who thought the Lakers would be able to keep Pau Gasol in a deal that brought Dwight Howard to LAL?
Who the Lakers Get:
- Dwight Howard
- Chris Duhon
- Earl Clark
Who the Magic Get (At Least):
- Aaron Afflalo
- Al Harrington
- Nikola Vucevic
- Moe Harkless
- Josh McRoberts*
- Christian Eyenga*
- Protected 1st round picks from Lakers, Nuggets, & 76ers
- 2013 2nd round pick from Warriors via Nuggets
- NOT Pau Gasol
Who the Nuggets Get:
- Andre Iguodala
Who the 76ers Get:
- Andrew Bynum
- Jason Richardson
Neither Dwight Howard nor Andrew Bynum have made promises about signing extensions with their new respective teams yet. Both will be able to able to make more money and sign for more years if they wait until after the season and enter free agency.
I am glad this deal finally got done, I am sure the rest of the world is too, but the Magic definitely settled. We are talking about the best center in the league right now and all the Magic have to show for is a rookie and 3 draft picks that have no chance of seeing the lottery. The Nuggets and 76ers did great jobs in this trade.
