NBA.com surveyed every rookie and the rookie photo shoot this year and asked them a number of questions such as; Who will be Rookie of the Year?, Which Rookie will have the best career?, Which Rookie is the best defender?, and more.
Keep in mind that throughout this survey by NBA.com players were not allowed to vote for themselves or any teammate of theirs, from college of in the pros. That automatically took away 6 votes from Davis.
Even with the voting rules Davis still was favored to win the Rookie of the Year award by his fellow draft class. Davis won that category with 47.1 percent of the votes. Damian Lillard came in 2nd with 17.6 percent of votes. Kevin Durant won this category back in 2007 with 53 percent of votes. If it wasn’t for Davis having 4 college teammates going in the first round this year I am sure he would have surpassed that margin.
Anthony Davis also won the category of who will have the best career. Again it was a landslide as Davis received 40 percent of the votes with Harrison Barnes coming in 2nd with 12.5 percent of votes. Davis came 2nd to Michael Kidd-Gilcrhist in the “Best Defender” category.
Hornets other lottery pick Austin Rivers did not win a category but did receive some votes in the “Best Playmaker” category.
