Hornets Defeat Defending Champs Miami Heat In Preseason Finale

After losing 4 in a row the Hornets went in to Miami and pulled out the win. It was a good game all the way through as the Hornets kept it close and finished strong to get the 96 – 89 victory.

Anthony Davis lead the charge and had a big game against the Heat, posting 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Grevis Vasquez played 41 minutes in friday nights game as the Hornets were very short on guards. Vasquez did not disappoint as he finished with 18 points, 10 assist, and 5 rebounds.

Austin Rivers injured his right ankle for the 2nd time in 5 days friday. It probably would have been best for Rivers to just sit this one and prepare for the season opener on wednesday. Now his status for the season opener against the Spurs is in jeopardy, we do not know the severity of his ankle injury this time. Rivers did walk off the court on his own though. When he injured it on Monday he needed to be carried off the court.

Lance Thomas got the start at small forward friday but it was Al-Farouq Aminu played majority of the minutes. Aminu played 36 minutes   and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. While Thomas only played 10 minutes and scored 1 point and grabbed 1 rebound.

Even though it was a preseason game it was good win for the Hornets. The Heat were at full strength and LeBron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh all played 28+ minutes. This game should give the Hornets a lot of confidence going into the regular season.

The Hornets finish the preseason with a 4-4 record and a pretty good outlook on what to expect from players. Although you cannot gauge a teams regular season based on their preseason record, the Lakers went 0-8.
