Kobe Bryant & Los Angeles Lakers Too Much For New Orleans Hornets, Lakers Win 103-87

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 29 points in their win over the Hornets Wednesday night. Going into the game Kobe only needed 13 points to become the 5th and youngest player to score 30,000 career points. Kobe reached that mark in the 2nd quarter on a simple jump shot, he finished the 1st half with 17 points.

Despite the Hornets being without Anthony Davis for the 9th straight game, the were hanging in their with the Lakers through halftime. The Hornets were leading 48-47 at the break, but the 3rd quarter and rest of the 2nd half was all LA. The Lakers went on a 13-0 run to start the 3rd quarter and never looked back. The Hornets made a few runs after being down by 20 and at one point cut the lead to 8, but the Lakers just went on another 3 point tear to take the lead right back up.

The Hornets early season struggles have been blamed by their lack of defense. It seems to just breakdown in the later parts of games. The Lakers outscored the Hornets 56-29 in the 2nd half.

“I just didn’t think our defense was there, especially that first five or six minutes of the third quarter. Our defense was really poor, and we can’t afford those lapses.”

- Hornets Head Coach Monty Williams

Ryan Anderson played well for the Hornets, scoring 31 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Grevis Vasquez also contributed well with 16 points and 9 assist.
