In their seemingly perpetual quest to trade the number one pick, the Cleveland Cavaliers contacted the New Orleans Pelicans, offering the first overall pick for the Pelicans’ pick in this year’s draft, 6th overall, point guard Greivis Vasquez, and a 2014 first round pick, according to HoopsWorld.
However, this report was refuted by a New Orleans official, according to Sam Amico. Via Twitter, Amico quoted a Pelicans official denying the reported trade talks by saying, “Good grief. People are just making stuff up now.”
Keep in mind that neither HoopsWorld nor Amico have spotless reputations with regards to reporting trade rumors. Also, teams often have ulterior motives that prompt information “leaks.” Cleveland or New Orleans could be trying to gain leverage for other trade talks or attempting to stall the operations of rival teams.
The days leading up to the NBA Draft, this year more than most, are a time when rumors run rampant, and little evidence can be given to support claims. It is not certain that New Orleans was not presented this offer.
