On Tuesday night the New Orleans Pelicans only had enough for the 1st quarter of play. The Pelicans started the game off with a 28-17 first quarter lead, but failed to keep the momentum going and lost to the Phoenix Suns 104-98. The Phoenix Suns won the 2nd quarter by 7 points, the 3rd quarter by 13 points and that was enough to put the young Pelicans away. Once again Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Starting shooting guard Eric Gordon finally had his breakout game making 3 of 5 from deep and finishing the game with 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Backup point guard Brian Roberts came off the bench to add 17 points, 3 threes, 5 assists, and added a career high 3 steals on the night. The Pelicans continued to have defensive breakdowns and allowed 4 players to score 15 points or more led by starting point guard Eric Bledsoe who added 23 points, 5 assist, and 3 steals while shooting 10-12 from the field. The difference in tonight’s game was the Suns shooting 50% from the field as the Pelicans only shot 44%. The stats from tonight’s game wouldn’t suggest the Suns outplayed the Pelicans as the Pelicans had fewer turnovers, more blocks, more steals, and more assists than the Suns, the Pelicans failed to make a few needed defensive stops and some timely baskets. The Pelicans are now 1-3 on the season and travel to play the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night at the FedEx Forum at 8:00 p.m.
