After weeks of waiting since the end of the season tonight marks an important night for the entire NBA. At 7 pm CT the order for the 2014 NBA Draft will be set. Dreams of Andrew Wiggins or Joel Embiid will be crushed for some teams, while others can return home with the promise of hope to give their fans.

For a breakdown of the Pelicans chances you can check out this good article from the team’s official site.

Basically though things are simple. There is a very, very, very small chance that the Pelicans keep their first round pick in 2014.

Due to the Jrue Holiday trade New Orleans will send their first round pick to the 76ers if the pick does not fall into the top 5. With the Pelicans finishing the season with the 10th worst record in the league that means the only possible way they keep their pick is if it lands in the top three during tonight’s lottery, something that has just a four percent chance of happening.

If that does happen things could change drastically for the New Orleans franchise. The future is already bright with Antony Davis developing into a superstar this season, but adding a player of the caliber of  Wiggins, Jabari Parker, or Embiid sets the seeds for an annual title contender and potential best team in the league.

So everyone grab your lucky charms tonight as you tune into the lottery. If New Orleans gets luck we all do. That would be some amazing basketball to watch over the coming years. Lets hope we get it.
