Daily Debriefings for Wednesday June 4, 2014: A Look Around the NBA

The NBA Finals start tomorrow and I couldn’t be any more excited. I have the Heat winning in 7, but only because they have LeBron James and the Spurs don’t. No matter what happens I feel confident that we will get another classic series, there is too much at stake with these two really good teams to not. Anyway on to today’s links that include some free agency news, a look at the best twitter account in the NBA, and Anthony Davis.

Handsome Chandler Parsons Becomes Restricted: The Rockets declined plan to decline the fourth-year player option on small forward Chandler Parsons according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The move makes Parsons a restricted free agent this summer allowing the Rockets the ability to match any contract offer that he gets, something that gives them a bit more power than if they picked up his option and he became an unrestricted free agent next year. It also gives the Rockets flexibility to do what we expected them too:

Houston plans to pursue the major stars who could be available upon opting out of deals, including Miami’s LeBron James and Chris Bosh, and New York’s Carmelo Anthony, league sources said. Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki is expected to be a target too.

The Rockets are pursuing Minnesota’s Kevin Love in trade talks too, and Parsons could hold sign-and-trade possibilities.

Obviously this is a situation worth watching.

Twitter Champs: The Atlanta Hawks may still be working on building a champion on the court but they absolutely have the NBA champion social media account. Mike Prada talked to the man behind the success.

The Perfect Couple: Marc Stein gave us an awesome look at the Tim Duncan/Greg Popovich relationship and what makes it so special.

The Brow Beefing Up: Since the season has ended Anthony Davis has already gained seven pounds and added a bit to his game according to Nakia Hogan. This line stood out to me most:

So far, Davis is working on adding the corner 3-point shot, more post move and a pull-up jumper off the dribble to his repertoire.

Davis adding the three pointer was my dream scenario, if he can add Chris Bosh like range with his pick-and-roll and off the dribble ability he may actually be one of the most unstoppable big man in the NBA.
