In one of the more bizarre ideas we are bound to hear the Pelicans supposedly have interest in free-agent-to-be Andray Blatche according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders.
I’m hearing there is mutual interest between the New Orleans Pelicans and free-agent-to-be Andray Blatche. Keep an eye on that after July 1.

Blatche is an interesting character. He is clearly talented and has played well off the bench for the Brooklyn Nets the last few years but for all the talent he has he is also a bit of a headache. Blatche was amnestied by the Wizards before landing with the Nets thanks to some off court issues and his tendency to not be in shape and make curious decisions.
The on court fit would make sense for the Pelicans if they lack faith in the combination of Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey to hold down major minutes at center as he has held down the Nets bench unit well the last few years. He won’t be a defensive force but he is a nice offensive weapon to have when a burst of energy is needed. He is a pretty good jump shooter for a big man, showing range out to about 16-18 feet and also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and play out of the low post. On the other end Blatche struggles to stay focused and engaged meaning he will probably need to be paired with a defensive partner at the other big slot to perform best, though he isn’t a terrible on-ball defender.
Despite the on court talent though I would be very hesitant to make the move if I were the Pelicans, especially with a young impressionable team. Blatche is far from an ideal role model and has done things such as advertise Lap Dance Tuesdays. Adding that personality to a city like New Orleans seems like just an awful idea. The situation bears watching though it both sides indeed have mutual interest.
What do you think about adding Blatche? Would it be a good move? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below.
