The rumors continue to fly. As we inch closer and closer to the 2014 NBA Draft the rumors get more and more interesting and surprising. Just yesterday came rumors that the Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers were in discussions on a trade that would involve Derrick Favors, Alec Burks and two picks being traded for the number one pick and the contract of Jarrett Jack. Then news came that the Kings may have trades for the number eight pick already. Let’s hit the links to get more into it:
Kings Ransom: Here is the report on the Kings and the trade for the number eight pick.
Sources said the Kings have two deals that could be done prior to Thursday’s 2 p.m. ET trade deadline to change the draft order and one would be a draft night deal, depending on which players are available when the Kings select.
The three deals would return multiple draft picks and a veteran player to the Kings for the No. 8 pick.
My guess is that someone is moving up to grab either Elfrid Payton or Doug McDermott but obviously we will see in the next few days.
Gunning for the Number One Spot: Here is a breakdown of that Utah/Cleveland talk and what it involves from Fansided’s Right Down Euclid. For what it is worth I take the deal without thinking if I am the Cavs, Derrick Favors is already a really good, proven big man and Burks has a lot of upside. Add the number five pick to that and there is a really nice core around Kyrie Irving.
Talks with the former Nets and Cavaliers coach have not progressed to the contract stage, as the Lakers continue to weigh whether to hold off on hiring a coach before they make their pitches to free agents.
The possibility of soliciting opinions of free agents before making a hire is a large part of the reason the Lakers have taken such a deliberate approach to their coaching search since Mike D’Antoni resigned after the season.
