Daily Debriefings: A Greg Monroe Decision Has Been Made

As we inch closer and closer to the 2014 NBA Draft we also are starting to hear more and more rumors coming forth about a multitude of players. Just yesterday my Twitter timeline filled with talk about Arron Afflalo, Orlando possibly trying to claim the number one pick and more. For those who love rumors and speculation there really isn’t anything like the NBA Draft and the free agency periods that follow. The Draft may be Thursday but this is just the start of crazy and chaos. Today’s links include much of that:

Scout Speak: Over at Grantland Ryen Russillo got some NBA scouts and front office types to weigh in on three top prospects in the 2014 NBA Draft: Aaron Gordon, Dante Exum and Noah Vonleh. Some interesting stuff here. I am a big Exum fan so some of the stuff the scouts said made me think.

Monroe as a New Orleans Pelican May Be Dead: The Pistons look like they have made a decision to keep Greg Monroe. Tough break for the Pelicans as adding a local product and productive talent like Monroe would have been great.

More Pistons Rumors: If the Pistons are going to keep Greg Monroe long term they need to probably move Josh Smith. They have reportedly had discussions to do just that.

Sources say that Smith being swapped in exchange for the combination of Sacramento’s Jason Thompson andDerrick Williams is one trade construction that the teams have discussed. Although one source insisted Tuesday that no deal is imminent, another source told that the teams have continued to exchange proposals, with Williams potentially being replaced by another Kings player such as Jason Terry or Carl Landry.

The proposed trade would make just about no sense to me for the Kings but if the Pistons can pull off getting out of Smith’s contract they become much less of a disaster.

Boris Diaw is Still the Best: Boris Diaw crashed a bachelorette party. This guy remains one of the most randomly fun guys in the NBA.

Pelicans Fit Has a Promise? Mitch McGary, who we profiled here at Pelican Debrief in case the Pelicans trade into the 2014 NBA Draft, reportedly has a first round promise.  Tough break for New Orleans, McGary would have been a great fit next to Anthony Davis.
