Daily Debriefings: The Carmelo Anthony Sweepstakes Starts Tonight

Tonight at midnight marks the start of the NBA free agency period which should be a bit crazy this year. With all if the Miami Heat’s Big Three opting out this weekend it seems likely that Carmelo Anthony is going to end up being the top target for most teams. Outside of Anthony there should there should be plenty of other people that draw interest like Chandler Parsons, Trevor Ariza and Luol Deng. It should be a hectic time and the Pelicans probably will be involved at some point so make sure to stay tuned here at Pelican Debrief as we break down everything. On to the links:

Carmelo Anthony Will Come To You: Carmelo Anthony already has his first set of meetings set up. He will start in Chicago then head to Dallas and Houston in the early part of free agency.

Top Free Agent Lists: It is always fun to read lists of the top free agents. Here is the Tom Ziller Top 75.  Here are Matt Moore’s Top 40.

Derrick Rose Won’t Beg: Derrick Rose won’t mind playing with Carmelo Anthony but he won’t recruit him.  The other interesting thing about this is the Rose Team USA news.

As for when Rose will resume playing, he told Yahoo Sports he expects to be ready for the 2014-15 NBA season-opener, but has yet to decide if he will try out for USA Basketball’s World Cup team this summer.

Rose has played in only 10 total games the past two seasons and 50 the past three because of various injuries, including two major knee surgeries. He said he has been taking part in five-on-five scrimmages for a while and his rehabilitation is going well. But Rose also said he is uncertain if he will participate in USA Basketball’s training camp starting July 28 in Las Vegas.
