Daily Debriefings: Jodie Meeks is the First Domino

The first day of free agency game and went yesterday and it was fairly quiet. There was lots of talk about Carmelo Anthony‘s meeting in Chicago and Marcin Gortat eventually signed a huge deal but the first player to agree to a contract was Jodie Meeks, just like we all expected. There will be more Melo talk today as he meets with the two Texas teams that will be recruiting him but until Melo and LeBron James sign things with the next tiers of free agents seem to be in a holding pattern. Onto the links:

The Meeks Shall Inherit the Earth: Meeks signed a three year $19 million deal in Detroit. Here is Pistons Palace report on the signing.

Gorthatcouldhurtdowntheroad: Marcin Gortat returning to Washington was the biggest agreement reached yesterday on a five year deal. The signing can be helpful over the next few years but as Mark Deeks said that could be a bad thing past that.

But Gortat just became un-tradeable. They do not want to trade Gortat one day, but things can change quickly no matter how well they have gone to date, and you need the options. Washington just lost one, and it is a risk.

Livingston Gets Paid: Shaun Livingston agreed to a three year $16 million deal with the Warriors yesterday. Blue Man Hoop on what it means for Klay Thompson.

Fropez: Robin Lopez took a picture with his other twin yesterday. Robin is starting to run away with the NBA social media MVP.

Lance Wants to Get Paid: Lance Stephenson and the Indiana Pacers are apparently at an impasse. Lance wants more than $44 million over five years. Going to be interesting to see what he gets.

Nets Find Their Man: Looks like the Brooklyn Nets already have their new head coach as Lionel Hollins is nearing a deal.
