Daily Debriefings: Of Course Spencer Hawes Signs on the Fourth Of July

Hope everyone’s Fourth of July went well. Obviously things were slow throughout the league yesterday due to the holiday but there were a few notable things that happened. Now we move into the start of action as the Orlando NBA Summer League is already started (I just watched the fist quarter of Nets vs. Pacers) and Vegas Summer League starts on Friday. Then international teams start preparation for the FIBA World Cup. Things are going to be fun from here until September or so hopefully. Onto the links:

Spencer Hawes Signs on the Fourth Of July. Of Course: There really wasn’t a better time for Spencer Hawes to agree to a contract than America’s birthday.

P.J. Tucker Market Developing: P.J. Tucker has been a name that a lot of Pelicans fans have wanted at small forward but the Suns willingness to match a deal with Tucker has complicated things a bit for teams interested in him according to a report.

Masaive Changes: Raptors Rapture took a look at the massive change in the Toronto Raptors roster this summer orchestrated by Masai Ujiri.

Lance Stephenson: Swarm and Sting thinks the Hornets should make a run at Lance Stephenson.

Pelicans Not Targeting Small Forward: A few teams are interested in the services of Marvin Williams but the Pelicans don’t seem to be one of them.

Bloggers Unite: I missed everything yesterday because of some family stuff going on but last night I caught up on the situation and this Rohan Cruyff piece at The Bird Writes standing up for bloggers is great and sadly still needed.

Fake Woj Explains: Ever wonder why people make fake accounts of NBA reporters this time of the year? Well David Roth got to the bottom of it and the explanation is basically what you would expect.

We did it because we wanted to see how gullible people could be. I know everyone is quick to believe what they read on Twitter, and that’s why we did this. It’s just entertaining to see people go nuts over something that hasn’t really happened and completely ignore the fact that the account was fake. No disrespect to the sportswriters that actually fell for it. I know they’re just trying to do their jobs, and it just so happened that our fake account resembled that of the real Woj. But we did get what we expected. Plenty of overreactions, humorous responses and some hate.
