Daily Debriefings: We Continue to Wait on LeBron James

Another day, another boring time as we wait on LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to make decisions. A LeBron decisions seems likely to come soon as he has supposedly narrowed down his decision to either the Cleveland Cavaliers or Miami Heat. James has a meeting today with Pat Riley so the decision could be coming any time now. Once that happens everything else should start falling into place and things could get crazy for the couple of days after that. Until then we have links:

The Craziest Offseason of All Time: Kelly Dwyer on the 1996 offseason, possibly the craziest summer in NBA history.

Hayward Signs Max: Gordon Hayward signed a max offer sheet with the Hornets. Will the Jazz match?

The Double Standard: Zach Lowe knocked it out of the park yesterday with a piece on players (like LeBron James) seeking max contracts and the double standard that comes with it.

This puts star players in an impossible position: accept a pay cut “for the good of the team” or look like a glutton. When stars take pay cuts to stay together, fans rail against their collusion and call the NBA product a rigged game. When stars chase the money, fans rip them as pigs.

“I want to be the best Blazer Ever”: LaMarcus Aldridge won’t be signing an extension with the Portland Trailblazers but he wants to stay in Portland for the rest of his career.

Skip 2 My Lou: A fun profile here on Rafer Alston from Slam Magazine.
