Daily Debriefings: Dante Exum is FUN

The day after LeBron James opened up the free agent market there came a few more interesting signings but all of it was pushed to the background by Dante Exum’s NBA debut for the Utah Jazz Summer League team against the Philadelphia 76ers. Or at least he pushed it all aside for me because man was Dante Exum a massive amount of fun. There was other news though as Paul Pierce signed with the Washington Wizards, Pau Gasol is now a Chicago Bull and Carmelo Anthony agreed to stay in New York among other signings. Now teams are starting to turn to value deals which is where the Pelicans should get involved soon. To the links:

Exum’s Exciting Debut: Here is Purple and Blues on the Jazz Summer League opener in which Dante Exum stole the show and basketball twitter’s heart.

Pau Puts Pressure on Thibs: Pau Gasol’s signing in Chicago puts some extra pressure on head coach Tom Thibodeau to prove that he can coach an offense.

Thibs’ Chicago tenure has been incredibly impressive overall, but so far his guiding hand has mostly affected the Bulls defensively. On the other end of the floor, Chiacgo has been mostly confined to Derrick Rose brilliance when Rose has been healthy, and very little when he hasn’t. Even as Joakim Noah emerged last season as a high post playmaking savant, the Bulls coughed and wheezed en route to the league’s 3rd worse offense. Their playoff series against the Wizards was a nightmare cocktail of D.J. Augustin suicide missions and brickedy pain.

Can You Win With Melo? David Vertsberger takes a look at the question that surrounds Carmelo Anthony. Can you win a title with him as your best player?

Ottomatic: Otto Porter impressed yesterday in his first game in the Las Vegas Summer League by doing a lot of different things.
