Team USA Teammates Continue to Praise Anthony Davis

One of the most common things to come out of the Team USA training camp over the past week has been stars praising each other. Whether it is players talking about Kevin Durant or Derrick Rose or Steph Curry each day continues to see more and more players praise someone as a big deal. Yet perhaps the most praised player in the entire camp has been New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis. Below are just a group of quotes from players over the time praising the NBA’s next superstar while talking to Pelicans.com’s Jim Eichenhofer in a few different articles.

The quotes talk about a host of different things in Davis’s game that makes him so special. The newest Dallas Maverick, Chandler Parsons touched mostly on his defensive impact.

“He’s one of my favorite players here. He’s so long defensively that he can get his hands on a lot of things. He blocks a lot of shots. Even when he’s not blocking shots, he’s altering them. He’s a great rebounder, he runs the floor, he’s athletic. There’s not much he can’t do on the basketball court. Like I said, he’s one of my favorite players here. I think he’s got a heck of a future ahead of him.”

Houston Rockets star James Harden also talked Davis and touched on how quick his growth has come in just two years in the NBA.

“He’s definitely grown. He’s gotten a lot better. Last year was definitely a big step. He’s an excellent rebounder who can score the ball, shoot the ball. He was the No. 1 draft pick, but he’s gotten so much better. He’s a great shot-blocker. He does it all.”

Davis’s classmate Damian Lillard spoke on why he can see Davis becoming great so easily.

“I think he can be great. I think he can be one of the best, because he’s so tall and so long, but he can really move. He can put the ball on the floor, he can shoot, he’s athletic, a great defender, rim protector. And he’s young. He’s already the leader of a team, the best player on a team. He’s only going to grow and only going to get better. I think the sky’s the limit for him.”

None of those quotes quite live up to the one from reigning MVP Kevin Durant though who said what many people who closely follow the league were saying by the end of next year. It isn’t about IF Anthony Davis can win an MVP award but WHEN Anthony Davis will win an MVP award.

“I know how good he is now, but I know how good he’s going to be. He’s an MVP-caliber player. So he’s next. He’s next in line – a guy that has grown so much in just a year. I’m excited to see what he does from here. He’s definitely on pace.”

The compliments aren’t coming from just players though, as even the media have seen just how special the feeling around Davis is.

All of it his high praise for Davis, who will look to help lead the USA to a gold medal in the upcoming FIBA World Cup and take that experience into the season and help the Pelicans reach the playoffs for the first time in his short career. Judging by the way his fellow stars are speaking about him it sure seems they think Davis will be doing both of those things.
