As the NBA season approaches, fans are beginning to make their preparations. Season tickets are purchased, rosters are studied, jerseys and team gear is bought, and NBA League Pass is subscribed to.

Every year some random team becomes a League Pass darling for a multitude of reasons. It’s possible to make the argument that no NBA team out there will be more fun to watch this season than the New Orleans Pelicans, a fact that combined with a few other things should likely make them this season’s NBA League Pass darlings.

The biggest reason why any NBA fan should be watching the Pelicans is Anthony Davis. After a stellar sophomore year, and a stellar stint with Team USA during the FIBA World Cup, Davis looks primed and ready to break out. He won’t be the sole defensive big man on the roster any more with Omer Asik next to him, and having the likes of Jrue Holiday getting him the ball can only mean good things. Considering Davis put up numbers last year that got him comparisons to David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwan, you would have to think the sky is the limit for him this season.

Of course, to be a good league pass team, you need more than talent. You need excitement, a reason to watch the team on a nightly basis, and something that won’t get old. The Pelicans have all of this. They should be a solid team this year, but it’s unlikely they will be great. That means they’re going to be involved in a lot of close games with other teams as they battle for a spot in the playoffs. When fans turn on a Pelicans game, they won’t just see Anthony Davis highlight plays, they’re going to be seeing game winning shots and battles going down to the wire.

That game-to-game competition that the Pelicans should be involved in is why they are a fantastic League Pass candidate compared to some of the young exciting teams out there. When fans pick their go to league pass teams, they usually pick one or two super young teams that are going to lose a lot, but have fun moments. The problem with picking these teams is they are like sugar. They start off super fun, and you can’t get enough of them. But after a while, you adjust to them, and they make you feel groggy and gross. Give opposing teams two months to study these young fun teams and soon, you won’t be able to handle watching them get blown out every other game.

Finally, a very underrated reasoning in picking your league pass team is the quality of announcers! The Pelicans have arguably the best team specific play-by-play man, in the NBA in Joel Meyers. NBA fans everywhere that were unaware of Meyers excellent play calling were alerted to it during last year’s NBA playoffs when he did a few select games for TNT and was his incredible self in all of them. There was a general sense of disappointment after his last playoff game last year, because fans wanted more of him. When watching the Pelicans on league pass, they can get their dose of Meyers play-by-play analysis as much as they want. He’s one of the best in the business and Pelicans fans are lucky to have him.

New Orleans isn’t going to be on national TV very often this year, as such, NBA fans need to put the Pelicans on their league pass go to’s. They have a player with NBA legend potential, a high chance of being super fun, and one of the best play-by-play guys in the NBA. Picking the Pelicans for league pass is a no brainer.
