New Orleans Pelicans fight back to beat Utah Jazz 119-111

facebooktwitterreddit

The New Orleans Pelicans found themselves down 11 points at the end of the third quarter. The hole seemed too steep to climb out of.

Luckily, the Pelicans found their wings in the fourth quarter and edged out a big win versus the Utah Jazz at home 119-111. Anthony Davis lead the charge with 31 points and nine rebounds. Enes Kanter stuffed the stat sheet for Utah with a season high 29 points and 7 rebounds. New Orleans caught fire on offense in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jazz 41-22 in the final period. When it mattered most, Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis caught fire. Rhino by shooting and Anthony Davis by, well, dunking!

Other Observations

  • The Pelicans interior defense was woeful tonight. The Jazz got everything they wanted inside with 18 offensive rebounds and 68 points in the paint on the night. The Pelicans bigs have to be in better position on the defensive glass
  • The biggest problem for New Orleans early was the turnovers. The Pelicans turned the ball over 16 times in the game. They have to take advantage of the ball liked they did in their past few games if they want to avoid rough games like this one.
  • Even with the rough night, the Pelicans shot the ball superb all night. The Pelicans managed to shoot 59.5% from the field, including 50% from behind the three point line. If the Pelicans can shoot like that without the poor defense and turnovers, this team would be very tough to beat.
  • The bench for New Orleans continues to be a positive. The Pelicans bench outscored the Jazz’s bench 52-27. Even with a bunch from Ryan Anderson, the rest of the bench held their own with Utah. That kind of scoring from the reserves is huge, and with a lot of high caliber teams next on the schedule, it will need to continue.
  • The Pelicans have a big game versus a division rival Thursday against the Houston Rockets. Game is set to tip at 7:30 PM CST.
