With a big chance to get momentum going into the Christmas break, the New Orleans Pelicans played sloppy and mistake-prone all night, resulting in a tough 96-84 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Point guard George Hill lead the Pacers in scoring with 15. Roy Hibbert also had a solid stat line for the Pacers with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 7 blocks.

Tyreke Evans was the bright spot for New Orleans. 6-12 shooting for 14 points lead the Pelicans, along with 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. He lead the charge for the Pelicans all night. He attacked the Pacers defense much more effective when Roy Hibbert went out of the game. He played well.. SF/PG/SG. New Orleans Pelicans. TYREKE EVANS. B+

Other Observations:

  • Roy Hibbert had complete control of the paint throughout. In the first half alone, he had all seven blocks. His presence in the paint caused a lot of problems for the Pelicans offense, as their passion to attack the cup seemed held back due to Hibbert’s length inside.
  • A Pelicans bench that has played extremely well recently got beat tonight. And pretty badly. The Pacers bench outscored the Pelicans 40-17. In the physical game, the bench’s lack of physical size couldn’t keep up with the style of the Pacers.
  • The turnovers were a gigantic problem tonight. The Pelicans couldn’t stop turning the ball over, ending the night with 16 giveaways. When the Pelicans take good care of the ball, they can keep up with any team. However, when they turn the ball over like they did tonight, they struggle to get any rhythm going.
  • Even with the struggles the Pelicans had all night, they still commanded the rebounding in this game. New Orleans lead the rebounding 37-35 and won the offensive rebounding column 9-3. Against a team that is known for being a very good rebounding team, this has to be a positive.
  • The Pelicans will look to get on track out of the Christmas break with a back-to-back Friday against the San Antonio Spurs and Saturday at the Chicago Bulls. Friday’s game is set to tip at 7:00 PM CST.
