The New Orleans Pelicans had beaten the Rockets earlier in the year once. In their second match-up against the Rockets, the Pelicans won in a much more dominating fashion.

The Pelicans shot 53% from the field as they dominated the Houston Rockets 111-83. The Pelicans caught fire right out of the gate and didn’t stop for the entire 48 minutes. The night was dominated by a combo effort of Tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson. Evans shot 10-15 from the field for 21 points, along with five assists. Anderson was on fire throughout, scoring 22 points while shooting 9-14 from the field and firing three 3-pointers on the night. Dwight Howard lead the Rockets with 12 points and five rebounds.

Other Observations:

  • The Pelicans were on fire in the first half. The Pelicans held a 59-42 lead at halftime. The Rockets had shot 3-17 from behind the arc. Ryan Anderson and Tyreke Evans combined for 32 points on 14-19 shooting in the first half alone.
  • The Rockets were a mess all night. Only a minute and a half into the third quarter, Rockets coach Kevin McHale benched all the starters for his backup unit after a lack-luster showing out of halftime from the starting five. The Rockets were off and the Pelicans took full advantage.
  • The Pelicans might have finally found the best five guys off the bench. For all the criticism Jimmer has gotten (even from myself), he has fit superbly with the other guys on the second unit. Since he’s been put on that unit, they’ve been much more effective. Big reason this team has improved in the past few games.
  • A Jimmer Fredette-to-Austin Rivers alley-oop happened in this game. With 8:36 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jimmer lobbed up an alley oop near half court to Rivers, who slammed it down. It was a moment to remember on a night to remember.
  • New Orleans will look to continue their strong stretch of play Monday against the Washington Wizards. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST in New Orleans.

Oh, and this happened in the fourth quarter…
