New Orleans Pelicans lose a tight game against Charlotte Hornets 98-94

The New Orleans Pelicans looked prime to win against the Charlotte Hornets, who were without their All-Star big man Al Jefferson.

Problem being, they still had their big-shot guard Kemba Walker.

After leading most of the night, the Pelicans offense fell apart late and Kemba Walker caught fire, hitting two big shots to put the Hornets up three with 1.4 seconds left. Tyreke Evans turned the ball over and the Pelicans lost their second straight game against the Eastern Conference 98-94

Anthony Davis was once again fantastic, with 32 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Kemba Walker lead the Hornets with 31 points and four assists.

Other Observations:

  • Luke Babbitt nor Austin Rivers saw the floor for New Orleans in the first half. With Eric Gordon’s return, Monty Williams has once again got frisky with the rotations. Not sure you can take much of a conclusion out yet, since it is only one game, however this may not be a good sign going forward for Luke or Austin.
  • After holding a 13 point lead in the third quarter, the Pelicans offense began to fall flat. The Pelicans had 66 points at the 6:35 mark of the third quarter. They only scored 28 points the rest of the way.
  • The nightmare stretch against the Eastern Conference this season is proving to be a huge problem for the Pelicans playoff chances. After this game, New Orleans is a meager 4-7 against the Eastern Conference. Simply put, that won’t cut it.
  • The big underrated problems in this game was free-throws and turnovers. The Pelicans shot 24 free-throws, but only made 16 of those. Add the fact they turned the ball over 14 times and it results in a poor performance. Those two stat lines have to get better.
  • The Pelicans will go up against the Memphis Grizzlies at home Friday. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST

Big takeaway from this game? Gordon is still rusty:
