The New Orleans Pelicans entered Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons looking for a bounce back. After losing to the Celtics on Monday, New Orleans faced a team that was 9-1 in their last ten games in the Pistons without their starting point guard in

Jrue Holiday

. Somehow though New Orleans didn’t just survive, they dominated, holding the Pistons to just 94 points in route to a wire-to-wire 105-94 victory.

SG. New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC GORDON. A. Gordon just seemed in control for most of the night despite being asked to take on a bit more responsibility than normal with Jrue Holiday out. 5-10 from the field and 2-4 from three is always nice but Gordon also added a few assists and a big offensive rebound in the fourth as the Pistons made their late run. He just keeps looking better and better since his return.

ANTHONY DAVIS. A. As per normal <strong><a href=. PF/C. New Orleans Pelicans

RYAN ANDERSON. A. 17 points off the bench on 50 percent shooting and a block of <strong><a href=. PF/SF. New Orleans Pelicans

A. <strong><a href=. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. DANTE CUNNINGHAM

JIMMER FREDETTE. A. Jimmer’s final line doesn’t look great but his stretch in the second quarter allowed the Pelicans to put the game away early. A rapid fire succession of and-one baskets allowed Jimmer to post eight points in eight minutes which helped spark the Pelicans to a 20 point halftime lead.. PG/SG. New Orleans Pelicans

A-. Tonight was exactly what the Pelicans were hoping for when they traded for Quincy. He knocked down a few threes, both from the corner and the wing, and provided some nice defense on everyone he played, including <strong><a href=. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. QUINCY PONDEXTER

Other observations:

  • The only real problem I had with Monty Williams tonight was his third quarter rotations. Monty went with Eric Gordon as the de-facto point guard for a few minutes which seemed weird with Jimmer playing well in the first half. It kind of felt like Monty was just trying to ease Gordon back into different situations in a game with a healthy lead though which seems like a smart idea.
  • The Pelicans somehow held a great rebounding Pistons team to just three offensive rebounds which seems insane. A lot of that is due to Anthony Davis and Omer Asik but really every Pelican contributed. Evans pulled in seven defensive rebounds, Pondexter had five and Gordon and Dante Cunningham had two each. It was a total team effort on the boards and it was terrific.
  • It is frustrating that the Pelicans keep losing random games that it seems like they shouldn’t but this win was terrific. The Pistons were 9-1 in their last ten games and New Orleans went on the road and dominated the game. If they go on a bit of a run now it wouldn’t be a surprise as they are the type of games that can start nice sized winning streaks easily.
  • The Pelicans now head to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers on Friday night.

Tweet of the night:

When the news came down that Jrue Holiday wouldn’t play tonight I wondered what it mean for the rotation. Our reader Puni Sanchez had a guess on Twitter that turned out to be pretty good.

Tyreke Evans played exactly 40 minutes.
