New Orleans Pelicans lose a close battle against the Denver Nuggets 93-85
By Rick Stone
The New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t find a way to extend the four-game winning streak to five as they suffered a tough loss to the Denver Nuggets 93-85.
Anthony Davis suffered an injury in the third quarter, yet returned the to game just a few minutes later. He put up 24 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the game. The leading scorer for Denver was Aaron Afflalo, who put up 20 points on 7-13 shooting.
Other Observations:
- The Pelicans faced a rough start at the beginning of the game, however responded with a big answer to begin the third quarter. After trailing by 10 at halftime, it took the Pelicans under six minutes to gain the lead back. That’s the type of run this team needs to constantly be looking to make.
- One of the biggest takeaways Monty should give to his team tonight was the ability of the team to play strong defense without fouling. The Nuggets shot only seven free-throws in the entire game tonight. New Orleans wants to repeat that part of their execution, with the foul trouble they’ve had in past games.
- New Orleans’ biggest problem on offense was the lack of a consistent three-point shot all night. The Pelicans shot a horrific 20% from behind the three-point line on the night. They have to shoot the ball better all over the floor if they want to beat a physical team like the Nuggets.
- After Eric Gordon’s three-pointer to cut the deficit to just one with 2:55 to go in the game, the Pelicans failed to score another point. That’s unacceptable late game execution in a game this team needed to win.
- The Pelicans will look to respond against the Los Angeles Clippers Friday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST.
