Other Observations:

  • This may be one of the most important wins for the Pelicans all season. With this victory, New Orleans now has a two-game lead on the Thunder in the West AND hold the tiebreaker if the teams end up with the same record at the end of the season. Winning the season series 3-1 is quite the accomplishment, even with Durant’s injuries.
  • The bench for New Orleans was the shining light on the game. The Pelican bench outscored the Thunder bench 36-11, making the biggest swings in the game. The biggest swing being in the late third quarter, where the Pelicans found themselves down 12 at the six minute mark and somehow stormed back to take a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The bench, one of the weak points of this team earlier in the year, has become one of their strengths.
  • The problem that is resurfacing for this Pelicans team of late is turnovers. While they were able to survive a victory after a massive 17 turnovers in the game, this is a major problem going forward. If they want to keep up with the Thunder and Phoenix in the race for the 8th-seed out West, they NEED to cut down on the mistakes.
  • The Pelicans had one of their best nights on the season from behind the three-point line. New Orleans made 11 of their 20 three-point attempts on the night, with four players making at least two three-pointers on the night. That being Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans and Quincy Pondexter.
  • The Pelicans will look to ride the momentum from this win into tomorrow’s game at home against the Chicago Bulls. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 PM CST.

Also, just in case we need to repeat this…
