New Orleans Pelicans can’t contain Gordon Hayward lose to Jazz 100-96

Not much was expected from the New Orleans Pelicans once it was announced that Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson would be joining Jrue Holiday on the sidelines for Monday’s game against the Utah Jazz. Without three of their best six players it would be tough for the Pelicans to do enough to win.

Despite a 10 point lead at halftime that was exactly what happened as Eric Gordon‘s 31 points weren’t enough to overcome Gordon Hayward‘s 32 and the Pelicans fell to the Jazz 100-96.

Other observations:

  • This is a tough loss for the Pelicans because of what it means in the standings and not what happened on the floor. The Pelicans just can’t afford to lose too many more games and so injury losses like this one are just tough to swallow. It hurts even more that New Orleans led by double digits at halftime as well.
  • The turnovers were tough to really focus on because of how little the Pelicans had on offense. Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon had to do a ton tonight for New Orleans to score and in those situations tough passes get forced and dropped by bigs with bad hands.
  • It doesn’t sound like Anthony Davis will be back Wednesday. Jennifer Hale reported it will be a multistage process for AD to return. I would expect him to sit out until the All Star Game.
  • The Pelicans try to bounce back on Wednesday against the Pacers.

Tweet of the night:

Steve Novak may have made more threes tonight but his hair has nothing on Luke Babbitt.
