The New Orleans Pelicans limped into their final game before the All-Star break missing three important players against a suddenly hot Indiana Pacers team. The limped out of the game and into the All-Star break in even worse shape.

David West and George Hill got whatever they wanted all night as the Pacers built up a 30 point lead. The Pelicans used a 33-17 fourth quarter to make the final score respectable but this one was never really close.

C. There isn’t much a defensive presence like Asik can do in a game like this. He rebounded and got in the way at the rim but the Pacers built their early lead thanks to jumpers. Asik can’t guard everything.  . C. New Orleans Pelicans. OMER ASIK

Other observations:

  • Jrue Holiday’s biggest impact upon his return will be on defense. George Hill went for an easy 17 and 9 to continue the trend of great point guard play against New Orleans since Holiday got hurt. When a team can’t get into their offense easily because of point guard pressure offense becomes much harder. It hasn’t been hard against New Orleans lately.
  • Ultimately though this game means nothing. The Pelicans got hammered by a great defensive team who didn’t have to defend three great offensive weapons. What was left for New Orleans had no chance.
  • We saw again tonight how much better of a role being a stretch four is for Luke Babbitt. When Ryan Anderson gets back those minutes won’t be there though which means we won’t see Babbitt. But it is nice to know the insurance is there.
  • The All-Star break will help. Hopefully AD is healthy enough to showcase the Pelicans this weekend and they come back ready to play against the Magic next Friday.
