On Sunday night in Denver the New Orleans Pelicans seemingly played a game in honor of

Omer Asik

.

The Pelicans struggled to make open shots, turned the ball over and forced a ton of misses. Rightfully in a game that ugly, Asik was the star as he hauled in 16 rebounds to help the Pelicans to a win in Denver.

It wasn’t the best game for <strong><a href=. SG. New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC GORDON. C+

SF. New Orleans Pelicans. DANTE CUNNINGHAM. B+. I’m not normally a fan of games where <strong><a href=

Plain and simple Omer Asik was the best Pelican player on Sunday. He dominated the glass, kept the Nuggets from scoring inside and opened up things for teammates with screens. Denver got close without Asik in the game. As soon as he entered though things changed. Just a wonderful effort.  . C. New Orleans Pelicans. OMER ASIK. A+

Other observations:

  • This was a game I am not sure the Pelicans win earlier in the year. With how badly things went in the first half to Gallo’s halfcourt heave to end the third, everything was set for the Pelicans to blow a game they should win. But they dug deep and got big shots from Eric Gordon in the fourth quarter and did just enough to hold on. It was the kind of win a playoff caliber team gets.
  • Omer Asik has caught a lot of flack this season but he was far and away the best player the Pelicans had tonight, continuing his recent strong play. It is also interesting to see so many people starting to turn in Asik’s favor. Maybe they just needed to see the impact without Davis for an extended stretch to really appreciate him.
  • I have no idea how or why this win streak is a reality but the Pelicans have no won five straight games. Tomorrow in Dallas is a brutal one but with Oklahoma City again beat up the Pelicans playoff chances are way better than anyone could have hoped for after the AD and Ryno injuries were announced. The end of this season should be fun.

It finished that way too. What a night from Omer.
