The New Orleans Pelicans came into tonight’s game with another tough injury to overcome, this time not having Tyreke Evans due to a left ankle sprain.

It did not stop the Pelicans from winning yet again.

The Pelicans won their second game in as many nights on the road, dominating every facet of the game against the Brooklyn Nets 111-91. Alexis Ajinca became the spark plug for the Pelicans in a crucial game for their playoff hopes, putting up 17 points, five rebounds and three steals in 23 minutes. Anthony Davis was superb once again, scoring 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Brook Lopez led the Nets with 15 points, along with nine rebounds.

Other Observations:

  •  First Half Storyline: The Nets started the game hot from the field, scoring 25 points in the first 9:13 of the game and leading 25-11 at that time. From that point on, the Pelicans went on a 100-66 run to finish the game. The fight from the New Orleans bench, led by Alexis Ajinca, was the main reason the Pelicans were able to storm right back in control of the game when it all seemed like it was going downhill.
  • The three-point shooting for the Pelicans was spot on. New Orleans shot 12-21 from behind the three-point land on the night, compared to 6-16 for the Brooklyn Nets. The Pelicans continue to be one of the best teams in the NBA at three-point percentage.  With that kind of shooting on nights that start out the way this game did, New Orleans has found even more ways to win games in tough situations.
  • The ball movement from the Pelicans seemed to overshadow the massive injures New Orleans were dealing with. A massive 31 assists on the night showed just how well the Pelicans were able to distribute the ball without their two best passes in Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday.
  • The best stat to show the balance the Pelicans used to win tonight’s game. All 11 players who saw the floor tonight for the Pelicans scored the basketball, along with seven of those players reaching double-digit points. The Pelicans continue to use a “score by committee” system to find their points, and it’s working as the Pelicans are 9-3 since the All-Star Break.
  • The Pelicans will enjoy a four day break from action before they return home to play the Denver Nuggets Sunday. Tip is scheduled for 5:00 PM CST.

So with the recent play from Alexis Ajinca, that posses a big question for New Orleans this offseason…
