For much of Sunday night’s second half against the Denver Nuggets all New Orleans Pelicans fans were worried about was if Anthony Davis could actually put up a quadruple double.

After an incredible third quarter Davis was flirting with the incredible line and the Pelicans were in control of the game so it seemed like a fun thing to track. Then the Denver Nuggets started to hit some big shots and creep closer and before the Pelicans knew it they ended up in double overtime.
Unfortunately for them, the Nuggets proved to be less tired in that second extra period and they were able to limp to the finish with a 9-2 final period to beat the Pelicans and drop New Orleans back into the ninth spot in the Western Conference playoff race.
Other observations:
- This is a tough loss but the Nuggets aren’t slouches. Since they fired Brian Shaw, Denver has been playing well including a win over the Hawks recently. Obviously it hurts in the playoff race but it isn’t anything to be ashamed of.
- Tonight again stressed the importance of getting an athletic wing on the roster to help defensively. Will Barton has torched the Pelicans twice now and it has been a long running issue with New Orleans. Replacing the wing minutes from either Dante Cunningham or Quincy Pondexter with an athletic defensive guy could be so big for this team.
- The injuries also played big into this game. As a team the Pelicans took 22 three-pointers. 11 came from Eric Gordon. New Orleans is desperately missing a second or third guy to stretch the floor.
- The nice thing was Tyreke Evans looked pretty healthy. He attacked the rim, went into traffic without any hesitation and even defended pretty well. It was nice to see.
- Bounce back time is Tuesday night on NBA TV against a tough Bucks team. Hopefully that game is as fun as the Pelicans have been in general lately.

Safe to say people weren’t thrilled with the decisions late in this game by the Pelicans.
