Sometimes it’s nice to just cruise to a win. The New Orleans Pelicans are in their most crucial part of the season with the playoffs drawing near, and considering they are currently on the outside looking in, they’re gonna need every easy victory they can come by.

For much of the season New Orleans hasn’t showed up in games they should have won easily, but today that was not the case. The Pelicans jumped out to a quick seven point lead, and from that point on they had control of the game. There was a point midway through the second quarter when the Minnesota Timberwolves cut the lead to three points, but New Orleans quickly built it back up and led by nine going into the half. The second half was all Pelicans, but it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that they were able to put the game truly out of reach. Minnesota, to their credit, would not go away and managed to keep the game within single digits. However, at no point did the Pelicans look to be in any danger of giving up their lead, and it was only a matter of time before they were going to extend it to an unreachable level.

New Orleans played a solid game all around, but what they did really well today was keep the ball moving, get Anthony Davis touches, and get the ball inside against a depleted Wolves frontline. The Pelicans have at times this season struggled to keep the ball moving, preferring to go isolation and hold it instead, and that has allowed opposing defense’s to sit on them. Today, they had the ball flying around, everybody was getting a piece of it, and they weren’t always settling for what the defense was giving them. They worked the ball inside, got it to their big men, and attacked an opposing frontline that struggles to defend. This might have been one of the Pelicans easier opponents, but they still played some great basketball, and there have been times this year where they haven’t been able to say that.

Finally the Pelicans put the damn ball in Davis’s hand. 28 points on 21 attempts, nine rebounds, five assists, and a whole bunch of free throw attempts. The Wolves had no way of stopping Davis down low and he knew it. Now the Pelicans need to figure out how to do this on night’s where he’s not playing as aggressive.. PF/C. New Orleans Pelicans. B-. It’s so hard to get a read on Luke Babbit. On one side, he only missed one shot and sank his only 3-pointer. On the other side he doesn’t play very much. He plays well in his minimal minutes, but does that really mean anything?. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. LUKE BABBITT
