New Orleans Pelicans coast to win over Minnesota Timberwolves 100-88

Monday night was never really about the New Orleans Pelicans and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Pelicans were always going to beat a battered, broken Wolves team thanks to a massive talent advantage.

What the day was about was the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Portland Trailblazers and the hope that Portland would knock off OKC.

Behind great nights from Tyreke Evans and Anthony Davis, the Pelicans held up their end of the bargain with a 100-88 victory. But thanks to injuries to basically the entire Portland roster, the Thunder were able to win as well, meaning the Pelicans playoff hopes come down to Wednesday night and the Pelicans matchup with the San Antonio Spurs.

New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC GORDON. A. It was a nice night from <strong><a href=. SG

A+. Against a team with no rim protection and no real good perimeter defender, Tyreke Evans dominated. Evans finished 8-14 from the field with five assists and got to the rim at will. A really nice performance. . SF/PG/SG. New Orleans Pelicans. TYREKE EVANS

A+. Another ho-hum 24 point, 11 rebound, six block, five assist game from Anthony Davis. There were moments where the help defense still wasn’t good but he did a lot to control the game all night long.  . PF/C. New Orleans Pelicans. ANTHONY DAVIS

Other observations:

  • The Pelicans never really felt in trouble at any point. New Orleans started slow thanks to some fatigue and built up a lead that they were able to coast with. But it was a win which is all that counts.
  • Anthony Davis continues to show off nice passing. He threw one ball across his body in the middle of the drive to the rim to Eric Gordon for an open corner three. It was a pass that shouldn’t have been as easy as Davis made it look. He just is such a huge weapon.
  • It sucks that the Blazers couldn’t beat the Thunder tonight but it does feel right that the Pelicans will have to win one more tough game to get into the playoffs. All season long the Pelicans have won games that they should not have. Doing that one more time means the playoffs.
  • I can’t wait for Wednesday.

Tweet of the night:
