While the New Orleans Pelicans have taken on the Golden State Warriors four times this season the NBA playoffs are a different animal. Teams make more adjustments from game to game, the focus on individual players is more intense and things get harder. So what to the Pelicans have to worry about? We are breaking down the group of Warriors that will probably see the floor in important situations throughout the series so Pelicans fans can know what to expect.

Background:

Andre Iguodala is the backup small forward for the Warriors. He’s averaging 7.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 3 assists per game in 27 minutes per game in a role as a point-forward with the bench unit. That role means Iguodala is often bringing the ball up the floor and facilitating the offense when Stephen Curry is not on the floor.

  • Depending on the night, Iguodala is very likely to finish the game on the floor in place of Harrison Barnes, giving the Warriors a bit better defender at the small forward spot. Despite his advanced age, Iguodala is still one of the best wing defenders in basketball and Steve Kerr wisely uses that to his advantage.

Iguodala is having a pretty nice season, only missing five games due to injury and playing effective basketball to help the Warriors push for the top record in the NBA and build up a bit of buzz towards the end of the season as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate. He is known as one of the key leaders of the team with 10 years of NBA experience and playoff experience during his years as a star for the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets. His role has differed greatly from his past years of being a dominant small forward in the NBA, however his play on the floor is still of great importance to the success of the Warriors. In the five games he’s missed, the Warriors are 3-2. In the three games the Warriors beat the Pelicans, Iggy averaged 12 points per game on an impressive 14-26 from the field total. In the one recent loss in New Orleans, he scored only seven points on 3-10 shooting.
