With an offensive explosion, the New Orleans Pelicans brought home a victory, versus the Western Conference’s current three seed in the Houston Rockets.

The New Orleans Pelicans returned home, after suffering a tough loss in Miami on Wednesday night.

Tonight’s opponent was the elite scoring team in the Houston Rockets, led by James Harden and his possible MVP campaign.

However, the Pelicans would play some of their best basketball of the season in this game. This is despite DeMarcus Cousins being sidelined with an injury. New Orleans spent tonight defeating the Rockets 128-112.

In the first quarter, the Pelicans came out of the gate on fire. Led by Solomon Hill, the Pelicans had a 36-23 lead at the end of the first.  In addition to limiting the Rockets on the defensive end of the floor, the Pelicans hit seven triples.

Second quarter action would see the lead extended by the Pelicans, even though they did not hit a single three in this quarter.  In addition, the Rockets started to show their frustration as the quarter continued.

Tim Frazier seemed to get under Patrick Beverely’s skin, as the Rockets guard picked up a technical foul. Later, Ryan Anderson got hit with a technical of his own, after a no-call.  Behind a strong 51.9 percent field goal percentage, the Pelicans took a 68-50 lead into the half.

Continuing the trend, quarters three and four saw more of the same, until mid way into the final period. Houston would bring the lead down to 11 late in the game. Solomon Hill would hit a dagger of a three, to set his career high in points at 30, as well as stop the momentum the Rockets had captured. From there, New Orleans would coast to victory.

69. Final. 112. 169. 128

B+. Jrue Holiday was limited to 28 minutes, due to early foul trouble. But this would not deter him from having his impact felt in this game. Holiday finished with 19 points and six assists, but most impressively only committed one turnover. Jrue was extremely efficient in the game and ran the offense well. He also had a couple of impressive finishes at the rim and added some excitement to the proceedings.. PG. New Orleans Pelicans. JRUE HOLIDAY

The one-time Jayhawk did exactly what he was brought in to do with his 10 day contract. Wayne Selden Jr. drained three of four long range attempts and stretched the floor for the Pelicans’ offense. It is too early to tell, but if he is able to be consistent from deep, he could earn a spot in the league full-time. Outside of the 11 points, his contributions were negligible.. SG. New Orleans Pelicans. WAYNE SELDON JR.. B-

A+. 8-13 from the field, 6-9 from deep and a career high 30 points, to go along with seven assists and six boards for highly criticized Solomon Hill. What a fantastic game for the forward, who was clicking on all cylinders versus the Rockets. Nobody expects these numbers from Hill. But if he wants to quiet the critics, he needs to continue contributing solid defense, but also add in a little more of the offensive punch we saw in this contest. A+ performance!. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. SOLOMON HILL

C. A ho-hum game from Dante Cunningham, as he played a team high 39 minutes starting in the place of DeMarcus Cousins. He finished with seven points on five field goal attempts, but did pull down nine rebounds and six on the defensive end. His biggest imprint of the night was a very nice put back slam in the 3rd quarter, which had the Smoothie King Center buzzing.. F. New Orleans Pelicans. DANTE CUNNINGHAM

ANTHONY DAVIS. A-. Anthony Davis turned in another stellar performance by the numbers. 10 of 18 from the field, with 24 points and 15 rebounds, along with two blocks for the all-star forward. Davis was very efficient in the game and played solid defense as well. Two small things on the negative side. He committed four turnovers and didn’t fully take advantage of Harden being matched up with him in the second quarter. Other than that, an overall very good game from the franchise talent.. PF. New Orleans Pelicans

A-. There was a Tim Frazier sighting tonight in the Pelicans victory. With 14 points, six assists and five rebounds, the back-up point guard played a very well rounded game off the bench for the Pels. He was able to play 23 minutes of zero turnover basketball as well and even found time to get under the skin of Patrick Beverley in the second quarter.. PG. New Orleans Pelicans. TIM FRAZIER

It was a struggle from the field, as Jordan Crawford went 3-10 and was seemingly unable to find the range in this one. The usually sure handed bench scorer did find other ways to contribute, with three assists and five rebounds. His biggest demerit in the one came on the defensive end, as he struggled to keep anyone in front of him. He will look to bounce back strong Sunday versus the Wolves.. SG. New Orleans Pelicans. JORDAN CRAWFORD. C-

C. E’Twaun Moore will not be placing this film in his highlight package anytime soon. The swing man had nine points on nine field goal attempts and never really seemed to find his way into the offense.. SG/SF. New Orleans Pelicans. E'TWAUN MOORE

INC. Alexis Ajinca would play just 10 minutes on the night. However, he did have seven points and four rebounds in his stretch on the floor.. C. . ALEXIS AJINCA

Final Thoughts

This was an impressive win for the Pelicans tonight. The team really played well on the offensive end of the floor, but also rose to the occasion on defense. The Rockets made one surge in the 4th quarter, but the Pelicans were able to absorb the blow and pull away, to capture the victory.
