Dominic McGuire will hit the free agency market for the 2nd time this season after being waived by the New Orleans Hornets. McGuire was waived by the Hornets on Friday January 4th. Not a good way to start off the New Year for him. McGuire was waived by the Raptors on November 29th and picked up by the Hornets on December 16th.

McGuire has played in 9 games for the Hornets and was playing a decent amount of minutes, averaging 16 a game. McGuire was a big factor in Al-Faourq Aminu’s huge decrease in playing time. Though McGuire was given a chance with the Hornets he just did not produce enough, McGuire averaged 2.1 points and 3.1 rebounds as a Hornets.

The Hornets have just picked up NBA journey man Dominic McGuire out of free agency. McGuire is a 27 year old small forward out of Fresno State. McGuire was a 2nd round pick drafted in 2007 by the Washington Wizards and has played on 4 other teams since then.

McGuire has not been too impressive in his 6 year NBA career, totaling career averages of 15.7 minuets per game, 2.78 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.24 assist per game. McGuire has appeared in a total of 337 games and has started in 83. McGuire’s best season came in his sophomore season with the Washington Wizards, 2008-2009. That year McGuire played in 79 games, started in 57 and averaged 4.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assist, with an average of 26.2 minutes per game.

McGuire was most recently waived by the Toronto Raptors on Nov 30th of this year after playing in 15 games. In those 15 games McGuire averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds.

McGuire is known for his defense and hustle. Do not expect him to come in and be any type of scoring option for the Hornets but he should help improve their defense that is giving up an average of 98 points per game.
