As we are half way though the season, it is time to give recognition to the player who has made the biggest impact on the court so far for the Hornets. The Hornets are currently 5th in the Southwest Division with a 19-34 record. But we aren’t here to talk about that right now. We are here to discuss a player known as Grevis Vasquez. The Hornets are definitely in a re-building stage with 19 year old Anthony Davis and a young and often hurt Eric Gordon looking to be the stars of the future. Despite this rough time Grevis Vasquez has emerged and proved that he belongs in this league as a starting point guard.

Grevis Vasquez has easily been the Hornets most consistent player throughout the first half of the season. After the Hornets traded Jarret Jack this off-season there was a big question mark regarding who will be the man leading the team at the point guard position. Grevis Vasquez has stepped up tremendously and has to be the front runner for this years Most Improved Player.

Vasquez has started in all 53 games and is averaging a team high 34.1 minutes per game to go along with a whooping 9.4 assist. Vasquez is currently 3rd in the NBA in Assist, only behind Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul, now that isn’t bad. Vasquez is currently the 3rd leading scorer on the Hornets with 13.9 points per game, up from his 8.9 average from last season. His scoring has been sporadic so far, Vasquez has a season-high of 27 but has had more than his fair fair of single-digit games. If Vasquez can keep his assist numbers up and combine that with a better offensive game, upping his scoring average to around 17 points per game, there is no reason why he can’t be an All-Star in the future. In the Hornets 19 wins Vasquez is averaging 16 points per game.

Expect Vasquez to only get better as the season continues.

The Hornets played 3 games that week and Vasquez averaged 21 points, 10 assist, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals. The Hornets have been losing the majority of their games so far this season but Vasquez led them to a 2-1 record over that week.

Vasquez has been putting up all-star numbers this season, lets hope he can keep up the great play.
