According to sources the Hornets have reached an agreement with free agent Roger Mason Jr.

Mason, 31 years old, is a league veteran and will bring some much needed experience to this young Hornets team. Mason has played for more than a few teams in his NBA career, his last was the Washington Wizards. He averaged 5.5 points per game last season in Washington. Mason is a capable shooter and can hit clutch threes at times.

I’m not sure how much playing time Mason will get in New Orleans, as the Hornets have Eric Gordon, Austin Rivers, and Xavier Henry. Mason is a good pickup for the league minimum but I do not see him making a impact on the Hornets season. His role will most likely be to mentor the younger guys such as Austin Rivers and Xavier Henry.

The 12th pick in the 2010 NBA draft, Xavier Henry, has not lived up to his potential as he has been very inconsistent in his first two seasons in the NBA. Last season he averaged almost 17 minutes per game but yet only averaged 5.3 points per game. As a shooter in the NBA those are very disappointing numbers. There was a lot of excitement surrounding Henry entering this years summer league. He was expected to be a key player as he had the most experience on the team. Unfortunately his performance was just average, but it has just came to light that Henry was playing injured throughout this years summer league.

Henry, only 21 years old, has missed his fair share of games due to injury in his career. He underwent surgery on Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and he also has been playing with a sore back. So Hornets fans give Henry the benefit of the doubt for his sub par summer league performance.

The Hornets now have 3 shooting guards who have all had surgery in 2012 in Eric Gordon, Austin Rivers, and now Xavier Henry.
