Let’s go in a different direction than my last post. There are a lot of options for my favorite moment of the season, but I’m going with the comeback win against the Kings on December 15th. That night the Hornets came back from a 23-point second half deficit.

Then-Hornet Marcus Thornton went off in the second half, scoring 17 points. Chris Paul had a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists, and the Hornets mounted the biggest comeback in team history.

The Hornets came out incredibly flat while the Kings played their little hearts out, and the game looked over by halftime. My friends and I were stunned. This wasn’t a team the Hornets should be losing against. I recommended that we leave, but my girlfriend said we should stay. Needless to say, I was thrilled we didn’t leave. Though the crowd was under 13,500 people, it was loud in the New Orleans Arena. Anytime the Hornets scored (especially Thornton) the arena erupted. Once the Hornets started the comeback, it seemed almost inevitable that they would win. They did, and it was awesome.

It’s not the Marcus Thornton trade. It’s not when Emeka Okafor injured his hip against the Suns (more on that in the future) or when David West hurt his knee. It’s when the NBA and David Stern bought the Hornets. No other moment in the season left me as deflated as that one.

I, like most fans, had been holding out hope that Gary Chouest would buy the team from George Shinn. Even though the deal had been KO’d for about a month, nothing had been confirmed and I talked myself into thinking there was still a chance. It was a pipe dream but, still, you never know. It was a dream filled with green grass, blue skies, pretty clouds and kittens riding unicorns. But then Stern came in and affirmed that those kittens were dead. (I know he’s not actually a bad guy, but I have this evil-genius picture of him in my mind. And, as the lockout drags on, it only gets intensified. Someone needs to make a comic book character out of him.)

And now Hornet’s fans will have to wait until the lockout is over for the end of the unsettled ownership situation. But if Stern’s claims of four or five local buyers is true, then maybe it wont be much longer.

In the comments below, let us know what you’re most disappointing Hornet’s moment was this season. Tonight, I’ll leave you with this…
